Last week my kids picked just under two pounds of strawberries from our front flowerbed, which is pretty good considering I planted them to cover the ground, not to actually produce food. But they seemed to enjoy the ruthless thinning and raking that I gave them early this spring, and we have tiny strawberries.
I asked the kids what they wanted to do with them, and they both agreed that they wanted to "make strawberry jam and give it to people." So we did. Supplemented with some berries from the freezer, we made eight half-pints (to keep) and six quarter-pints (to give away).
