Look! We're getting something out of our garden! Corn, summer squash, radishes, watermelon, eggplant, bell peppers, and cherry tomatoes. I'm still working on being able to tell if watermelon and corn are ripe. Also acorn squash. Any tips?

We've had oodles of basil, and I've frozen several jars of pesto for the winter. There's plenty more basil left: I should freeze more!

  1. Wow! Look at all of that! Enjoy!

  2. Our first watermelon we picked was not ripe--no red inside! Then someone told us to look to see if the curly-cue near the stem was dried, and if it was the watermelon was ripe. So far it's worked for us.

  3. Our watermelons were pretty much a guess. Usually you look for the spot to be yellow, not white, but ours had no spot.
