Several ways to eat bread for breakfast

  1. Poached eggs on toast
  2. French toast
  3. Scrambled eggs and toast with jam
  4. Soft-boiled eggs with toast soldiers for dipping in the yolk
  5. Soft-boiled eggs mashed on toast with salt and pepper
  6. Avocado mashed with lemon juice and salt spread on bread
  7. French bread with Nutella
  8. BLTs
  9. Breakfast sandwich with tomato and fried egg
  10. One-eyed sandwich (bread with a hole cut in it, buttered and fried with an egg in the hole)
  11. Bread with cheese (unmelted), with fruit on the side
  12. Welsh rabbit
  13. Whole wheat bread with hummus
  14. Stale bread broken up in a bowl with hot vanilla poured on top (not sure about this one)
Today we had bread with avocado for breakfast and it started me thinking about different ways we could eat bread for breakfast. I need this list for when we have a stagnant loaf of bread on the counter.

  1. A family recipe called "toast and gravy" is a favorite breakfast. Make the gravy (a basic white sauce) by melting 2 tbsp butter, stir in 2 tbsp flour, then gradually add 1 c. milk and bring to a boil, stirring constantly. Add 1 finely chopped hard-boiled egg and salt and pepper to taste (start with 1/2 tsp salt and 1/8 tsp pepper and adjust from there). Break a slice of toast into pieces on your plate and put gravy on top. As kids we needed some gravy on every piece of toast. Yum!

  2. Nothing better than peanut butter on toast! Serve some fruit with it and you have a great breakfast.

  3. Love this. I should make lists like this and tape them up inside my pantry door. My kids' favorite is cinnamon sugar on toast.
