Paying attention

Today I realized that I haven't been paying attention to the kids as much as I should lately. They've been amusing themselves pretty well lately. Tiger Lily needs less attention than Red Chief did at her age, probably because she has a brother to follow around. But in any case, every few months I seem to wake up and realize that I should be paying more attention to my kids than I am.

And then I make more of an effort, like I did today. We didn't do much—just planted some seeds and colored and made cinnamon rolls and granola. All it takes is one day of me paying more attention to the kids and our home—one day of making eye contact and playing together and really listening—and we're all happier. Red Chief has been covering me with kisses this evening.

  1. true sometimes we have to remind ourselves and it is rewarding when we spend time with the kids isn't it :)

  2. At least you remember them now and not when they're grown and gone. It seems Red Chief already knows how positive reinforcement works!

  4. I think you are being hard on yourself- anyone that reads their kids over 700 books in a year is paying attention to them. Do you have a park nearby? Do you ever take them there? In the Springtime, kids generally get more tired out from playing outside than other times of year, and it's easier to let them out for longer because of the weather. Happy Easter!
