Using it up

We're preparing to go on a camping trip soon, which means that I'm attempting to get everything packed, the laundry done, the house clean, the trip scheduled, and the food in the fridge used up. All at the same time. Sigh.

I dislike packing, and the cleaning is a losing battle with my two little ones, but I do enjoy using up all the odds and ends in the fridge. It's fun to look at the five things that are left in the fridge and make a meal out of three of them. For me, it's creativity at its best.

And on an coincidental note, I saved lots at the grocery store this week because I planned my menu around what was in my freezer. I'll keep that in mind for future weeks when I want to keep costs down.

  1. That sounds like fun! I keep meaning to plan a camping trip, but I never get around to it. For using up food, silver turtles are very useful. Have fun!

  2. I've never heard of silver turtles. What are they?

  3. I'm pretty sure it's just another name for tin foil dinners.

  4. I try to clean out our freezer and cupboards by cooking from them, only to realize that they are too bare! I haven't stocked up in ages.

There is a quote I read that said "Cleaning the house with small children is like trying to brush your teeth while eating oreos." I whole-heartedly agree! No matter how hard I try, the house is a complete disaster.
