Breakfast for a new year

One of my two goals for this year was to have breakfast as a family every morning. This is a hard one for me as I don't like to get up in the morning. However, so far, so good. We've had breakfast every morning.

What a difference breakfast has made! Red Chief is happier. He loves getting up to see what I am making for him. It makes him feel special and loved.

It also gives me a great start in the morning. Since I'm in the kitchen anyway, I usually end up doing some dishes and tidying up a bit. Since we've started having breakfast together, the kitchen has been much cleaner! It also gives me the momentum that I need to carry over to other areas of the house.

The last, and best, part is that we all get to spend half an hour together in the morning.

Family breakfast: definitely worth sacrificing an extra hour of sleep.

  1. I get up and make hubby breakfast every morning. Even when he has to work on a holiday or weekend, I still make him breakfast before heading back down to sleep. It's not so much the family time for us, as it's something that I can do for him to make his day go better (and it keeps him from stopping at the golden arches).

It's great that Red Chief is enjoying it. What time are you all having breakfast? I think my kids would be up for it if breakfast wasn't at 5 a.m. at our house. On the weekends they love the breakfasts I make.

  2. We eat at 7:45, give or take. Luckily we're not on a terribly rigid schedule (which is why we weren't eating together in the first place).

  3. I really appreciate this post. We're sold on after-church Sunday dinners and I have a feeling breakfast would be similar. The extra effort makes it special and meaningful.

Not sure I'm quite ready for the breakfast commitment yet, but I'm inspired!

  4. Hiya
Thanks for the comment on my blog :) Nice to 'see' a new face :)
I love the morning breakfasts as a family, I am a single mum with my youngest two at home (5 and 13) and like you i'm just not a morning person...though when i hear the kids banter it spurs me on and really does put a good cloud over my day!
I've never been a breakfast person and i admit sometimes i'll just sit with the kids and have a juice or something but its that interaction, the start to the day that makes so much difference!
I'm sure your mornings are giving your family a phenominal memory :)

  5. We eat breakfast together and it make alot of difference. We read the scriptures at that time as well. To start the day off together is a good start to the day.

I have been trying to get up early in the morning before everyone else and do somethings. I don't feel like I am chasing my tail all day. But I don't have little ones either. :0) So it is so far working for me.

I loved the Tasha Tudor book the library called today and they have her Garden one in I am going to go pick it up tomorrow.

  6. Good for you and you family. God will give you energy for the day. I am proud of you.

  7. We have done this with moderate success. We all love it when it happens and I've been thinking about doing it again. The biggest problem is that my husband often leaves for work before 6:30 and the kids don't wake until 7:00. But it is nice when even just me and my husband sit down for breakfast together. It gives us a little time for just the two of us.

  8. I started doing this about two years ago, and while tempted, I will never go back. I love the time spent together as a family in the morning and it quickly turned into not only breakfast but prayer and study time too.
