Speedy cooking

The past few months, I've noticed that I can speed up cooking a bit when I use the microwave and stove simultaneously. While the water's coming to a boil, I can give the chicken or veggies a head start in the microwave (especially helpful when they're frozen). While my butter is melting for the white sauce, I can microwave the milk so it incorporates faster.

I know I'm lazy, but I just can't help trying for maximum efficiency, even though I enjoy cooking.

  1. I understand. I wish I had my micro still. It died 2 months ago. We haven't replaced it. I really never realized howmuch help that thing was. It was a hige time saver.

  2. Sometimes when I have something that has to cook in the oven, I can assemble the longest-cooking part (like the rice and cream soup) and put that in the oven to start while I finish cooking the vegetables and other ingredients on the stove.

  3. I do this all the time with potatoes. Whether I'm putting them into soups, frying them up as a side dish or just want baked potatoes they go into the microwave first.

Also it works well when there is a casserole to bake, but you don't want to use the oven the whole time (like if you have it full of other things) you can micro it and then pop in to the oven for the last bit to give it that nice oven crisp topping.

  4. If you are lazy for doing that then so am I! :) I use my microwave so much more than I thought I would.

  5. I don't think for one second you are lazy!! I think you are creative and practical, and making best use of 'Mamma-time' which is a precious commodity when you are raising 2 teeny weenies!! Fiona
