I actually sewed something

I've spent probably half an hour total sewing since we moved into our house in January. Well, no more! I finally made--and finished--something. All it is is a hunk of fleece squared off and bound with blanket binding from a package. It sounds easy, and it was, but I still managed to make things pretty crooked. It was so slippery! But I'm a beginner, and I'm trying to accept the fact that nothing will come out perfectly. I'm counting this as practice, and luckily it turned out very usable!

  1. Not too long ago I decided to make a blanket just like this. I figured it would be easy (I have almost zero sewing experience or talent.)
I had my mom help me a little and she told me I actually picked something a little difficult because the binding was hard to sew.
    I never finished it...
I want to though. I've been thinking about pulling it back out and just doing it. Like you said, good practice. My son won't care if the stitches on his blanket are a little crooked.

  3. Good job! I've never tried to sew binding on a blanket, but I can understand that slippery stuff must be hard to work with. Great practice, and like you said, still very usable.

  4. That's actually a really great place to start for a beginner, and it's ok if it was slippery!!! You did a great job.

Love the new look. I love green anyway so of course I love it.

  6. I wish they had a blanket like that in my size. Warm fuzzy and colorful. I think you did an excellent job. Thanks for stopping by my blog. Keri of Quaint and Quirky is my daughter-in-law and I am so blessed to have her--she truly is everything Proverbs 31 says a good wife is. I'll be back.

  7. Wow, good for you! We moved to our house 2 years ago and I still haven't found a "place" for my sewing machine.

  8. I have 13 rubber maids full of material in my basement. The last time I sewed something by myself was almost 6 years ago. The amount of things I've sewn total (by myself or with help) is about 10. SO, I think that your blanket is quite an accomplishment. I have dreams of being a wonderful seamstress, but so far it hasn't panned out very well.
The blanket is really cute. Congratulations!
    *hugs*

  9. What a cozy little blanket! Very cute! :) I've never worked with that kind of binding. I can imagine it would be a little slippery, though.
