Jackpot

I hit the jackpot at the thrift store this week! All of next year's Christmas cards in a religious theme (Psalm 150:1-6 and Revelation 22:13, 16), some cute child-proof ornaments and stockings for next year, An Old-Fashioned Girl by Louisa May Alcott in a 1947 edition, a beautiful table runner, a copy of Alpha-Bakery, a lid for my Pyrex casserole dish to replace the one that Red Chief broke, some jars for my bulk ingredients, some cloth, and two shirts for Red Chief. Whew! I think I'll go after Christmas every year.

  3. I think I read it as a girl, but I don't remember it anymore. However, the flap on the jacket says:

"In this story Polly, the little country school teacher, has a hard time with a wealthy city family. By their actions they try to show the difference between them and the well-meaning little country girl. But Polly has the courage to face odds and to come through despite reverses that would discourage a less hardy soul. She shows her grit and ability in helping the rich family when they in their turn are faced with bad luck. How she is amply repaid for her good deeds forms a thrilling climax to the novel."

Wow, I just noticed that the book has two jackets, exactly the same, but the inner one is almost pristine. The cover under the jackets is really cute, too. I'm so excited about this book! I will read it as soon as our move is over, or sooner if I can't help myself.

  7. You did hit the jackpot!! I was going to tell you that if you start today and read 3 chapters/day out of the BOM you can have it finished by the Spring Conference... that's the schedule I'm doing right now.

  13. You never know what you'll find treasure hunting at the thrift store.

Since there are no garage sales around here in the winter - I kind of rely on the thrift stores to come up with some "treasures".

Do you ever find that there are some of the same people in the thrift store every time you are there? For probably the past 4 years there is one older lady that I see almost every single time I am there (which is only about 3x per month). So makes me think she must be in there every day.

I think she's finding all the plumb deals before I get there!
