A childproof Christmas

You can have your tree,

and a baby too.

Gifts are always in order.

How? Of course.

Can't wait for those presents!

After some debate over how to childproof a Christmas tree, we decided that it would go best up high: on top of the bookcase. That meant we needed something small. We have used a tiny artificial tree the past two years, but our tree this year is a living dwarf Alberta spruce. We re-potted it in a clay pot for prettiness and decorated it with the tiny ornaments we have collected in the past couple of years. I put the clay pot with its saucer on top of a plastic plate covered with a Christmas dishtowel to protect the wooden bookcase from warping. If the tree lives until the spring, we can plant it (after we buy a house!).

  2. So sweet! and what a great idea! When I saw you had a childproofed Christmas tree, I envisioned a tree with plastic ornaments or something similar. I like your idea ever so much better:-)

  5. hmm, hope the child does not decide to use your bookcase or books as a ladder ;-) . My daughter has a 14 month old and she asked me about child proofing the tree--I had 3 kids , but never had much trouble with them playing with the tree---my daughter just put hers up and she said her little critter kissed each ornament before hanging them! She also had to tell her to leave them on the tree, but I think it has worked---will have to check with her in a few more days!

  6. Good idea. May need to do that next year, as right now all of our ornaments are on the floor, but the tree hasn't gone over yet.

  10. I like your tree - it looks like this might be the last year for it up there - by next year he will be able to reach it there. :)

    Thanks for sharing,
